A Day at Shea: History of Shea Stadium
When Shea Stadium opened in April 1964, fans were full of hope: hope that a permanent home would give the “lovable losers” a spark, hope that parking jams were a thing of the past and hope that someone other than the Yankees might bring some glory to New York City. For 45 seasons, the Mets played on Shea’s field while countless fans forged memories in the stands. The stadium was demolished in 2009, but it’ll live forever in the hearts and minds of the Mets faithful.
