Meet Mr. Met in the 1963 Yearbook

Like the famous theme song, “Meet the Mets,” Mr. Met is an iconic part of the team’s history that came about in their second season of 1963. That year, the Mets yearbook introduced the franchise’s beloved cartoon mascot. Mr. Met appeared in Mets publications, on television broadcasters, merchandise and at the stadium, gathering his first generation of admirers in the team’s early seasons. The Mets encouraged fans to “adopt ‘Mr. Met’ as one of your own children and treat him just as kindly.”
