Piazza Mobbed at Home
Date: September 21, 2001
After Mike Piazza unloaded an 0-1 Steve Karsay offering over the center field wall, the entire stadium – including the Mets dugout – went bonkers. Piazza’s home run in the bottom of the 8th gave the Mets a 3-2 lead and would end up being the game-winner. First responders, who had endured so much pain and loss over the previous 10 days, could be seen in the crowd smiling and high-fiving. Everyone in the ballpark, including the Atlanta Braves, knew that Piazza’s home run transcended baseball.
