On September 21, 2001, the Mets and their fans carried the emotion and feelings of an entire country. Shea Stadium was permeated with chants of “USA,” unfurled American flags and hats and shirts adorned with NYPD and FDNY. The patriotism could be felt and seen everywhere, even on the sides of the bases used in the game.
