Mitchell’s World Series Heroics
Date: 1984, 1986
Utility player Kevin Mitchell finished in the top three for NL Rookie of the Year voting in 1986 as the Mets made their championship run. He played a crucial role during Game 6 of the World Series. With two outs in the 10th inning and the Mets trailing, 5-3, Mitchell pinch-hit for pitcher Rick Aguilera. He singled to center field to keep the inning alive, then scored the tying run on a wild pitch before New York pulled off the unbelievable comeback victory. Mitchell was traded to the San Diego Padres after the season and later named 1989 NL MVP as a member of the San Francisco Giants.
