Chavez Made the Catch
Date: 2006 to 2008
Remembered best for his home run-stealing catch in Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS, Endy Chavez spent three seasons in New York from 2006 to 2008. His miracle grab came in the 6th inning of a tied game, robbing St. Louis Cardinals batter Scott Rolen of a home run before Chavez threw out the runner at first base for a double play. “I didn’t even know if I could jump that high,” Chavez later said. “I didn’t feel like there was a big percent that I would catch it. I was surprised when it hit my glove.” Though the Mets lost the series, Chavez’s heroics go down as one of the greatest defensive plays in franchise history. Even today, Chavez said “you never get tired of the love from the people, the fans, from family.”
