A Grand Impression
At 6-feet-tall and 270 pounds, Daniel Vogelbach was never going to stun people with his speed. But the big man from Orlando could mash. In his first 10 games after being acquired from Pittsburgh, Vogelbach had 10 hits, two of which were doubles and two more were home runs. His first was a grand slam as the Mets defeated the Washington Nationals on the road, 9-5. It was the eighth win for the Mets in nine games and part of a stretch where the team won 15 of 17 games. Vogelbach was the 11th Mets player to have his first long ball come with the bases loaded. “It’s easy to feel comfortable when you come into a team like this,” Vogelbach said. “Not just the players on the field, but the players off the field. It’s an easy clubhouse to come into.” The image is from a home run Vogelbach hit at home a week later.
