A Championship Homecoming
Date: 1986 to 1991
The Mets traded for Tim Teufel in 1986. He had spent the previous three years with the Minnesota Twins and would work as a platoon infielder in New York, mostly splitting time with Wally Backman at second base. “I’m excited. I’m thrilled. Use any word you want,” said the native of Greenwich, Connecticut. “This is a homecoming for me. As a youngster I grew up watching the Yankees and Mets. I am going from a situation where I knew I wasn’t going to fit in, and now I’ll be playing for a team with a chance of going to the World Series.” Teufel appeared in three games in the 1986 World Series and tallied two hits each in Games 1 and 5. He remained with the club until 1991.
