Cleon Jones aka Mr. Mobile-ity
The kid from Alabama, nicknamed “Mr. Mobile-ity” after his hometown, could knock the stuffing out of a baseball. Cleon Jones’s off-field leadership, hard work and prodigious offense were important ingredients of Mets success in the late 1960s and 1970s. But he might be best remembered for his fielding after catching the final out of the 1969 World Series, a catch that sealed a miraculous season for a miraculous team.
