Tom Seaver’s Stellar 1971 Season
Date: Undated
Tom Seaver posted a MLB-leading 1.76 ERA in 1971, the lowest of his career. His league-leading 289 strikeouts was also a career best. Seaver expressed disappointment at being the runner-up for the Cy Young Award that season, but stated: “I’m only 26 years old. Maybe someday I could put another one up on the wall.” He did just that in 1973 and 1975.
