Ticket to Mets History: 1969 NL East
									Date: September 24, 1969
The Mets won 95 games prior to September 24, 1969, but that day’s victory was the most important of the regular season. With a 6-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals at home, the Mets clinched the NL East, becoming the first-ever winners of the new division. Donn Clendenon and Ed Charles each hit first-inning home runs to give the Mets an early lead, while Gary Gentry’s complete-game effort kept the Cardinals off the board entirely.
