By the time the Cincinnati Reds faced the Mets in 1973 NLCS, Reds manager Sparky Anderson had already led his team to two pennants in the previous three seasons. The Reds tried for a second consecutive National League title, but the underdog Mets pulled an upset and won the series in five games.
