Pete Alonso’s Game-Winning Patience
Date: September 6, 2019
The Mets worked a two-out rally in the bottom of the 9th inning against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citi Field. After singles by Juan Lagares and J.D. Davis, Jeff McNeil was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Pete Alonso then worked a walk on a 3-2 pitch to literally walk-off with a win, which earned him a Gatorade bath. Though he’s known as a power hitter, Alonso walked an impressive 72 times during his rookie season.
