Nice Game, Pretty Boy
The Brooklyn Cyclones honored one of the most iconic guest-starring roles in TV history with this bobblehead of Mets All-Star Keith Hernandez. The legendary Met appeared on Seinfeld as himself, playing Elaine Benes’ brief love interest. Hernandez’s appearance sets off Kramer and Newman, who misremember Hernandez spitting on them after a 1987 game when Newman insulted the Mets first baseman by saying, “Nice game, Pretty Boy.” Hernandez then tells the story, gesturing to where the real spitter, Mets pitcher Roger McDowell, was at the time. Why McDowell? Kramer remembered, “Well, we were sitting in the right field stands cursing at him in the bullpen all day” while Newman recalled “spilling a beer on his head.” The cameo remains popular as the Cyclones celebrated Seinfeld Day in 2014.
