Tom Seaver Nearly Perfect Game: Ticket
Date: July 9, 1969
Going into the 9th, Mets fans held their breath for Tom Seaver, who was working on a perfect game against their NL East rivals, the Chicago Cubs. Seaver was two outs away when Jim Qualls’s clean single broke it up. Seaver stood on the mound with his hands on his hips as more than 50,000 fans gave him a standing ovation, while a young Howie Rose, who was in attendance that day, added “dammit” to his scorecard.
