METS HALL OF FAME PLAQUE OF FIRST TEAM PRES
As the Mets prepared for their opening season in 1962, franchise owners asked George Weiss to be team president. Weiss brought three decades of front office experience with the New York Yankees to his new assignment and he persevered through the initial growing pains, working to acquire the players who would win the Mets’ first World Series title in 1969. In doing so, he helped to build a dedicated fan base for the new team in a city that relished National League baseball.
