Johnny Murphy Mets Hall of Fame Plaque
Date: 1983
New York Yankee hurler Johnny Murphy pitched on seven championship teams in the 1930s and 1940s. The native New Yorker joined the Mets front office when the expansion club was founded in 1962, and later became GM in 1967. Murphy assembled the final components of the Miracle Mets team that despite the odds, went on to win the World Series in 1969. Tragically, Murphy died just months after the World Series at the age of 61.
