Mets Fans Come Out in Droves
Date: September 21, 2001
After the events of September 11, MLB commissioner Bud Selig canceled all games through the end of that week. Once baseball resumed the following week, the Mets organization was not sure how the people of New York City, and Mets fans in particular, would respond to their first home game since the terrorist attacks. To the surprise of many, more than 41,000 determined fans flooded the Shea Stadium turnstiles that night to cheer the Mets – and the country – on to victory.
