Pete Alonso Breaks Rookie Home Run Record

When manager Mickey Callaway set the lineup for the September 28, 2019, game against the Atlanta Braves, he knew it was possible that his star first baseman would make history that day. Sure enough, in the bottom of the 3rd inning, Alonso hit his 53rd home run of the season, breaking the rookie home run record set by Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees in 2017. This base was used at first base during the game meaning that Alonso touched it on his historic home run trot and defended it in the field. The ball was from a 1st inning at bat.
