An Untouchable Record
Date: 1992 Season
On August 24, 1992, Dwight Gooden clubbed a two-run home run to help his own cause in a 4-1 win over the San Francisco Giants on the road. It was Gooden’s fifth career home run. After hitting two in 1993, Gooden tied and then passed Tom Seaver for the most home runs hit by a pitcher in team history. The record is unlikely to be broken after the National League adopted the Designated Hitter.
