An Emergency Victory
Date: 1981 to 1982, 1985 to 1989
Terry Leach first came to the Mets in 1981 as a sidearm-throwing rookie whose delivery often baffled opposing hitters. Mostly used as a reliever, Leach made a memorable emergency start on October 1, 1982, tossing 10 innings of one-hit ball to beat the Philadelphia Phillies. Leach was dealt to the Chicago Cubs in the 1983 offseason but returned to New York in 1985, pitching five more seasons with the Mets.
