A Bush in the Rose Garden

Just a week after winning the World Series, the Mets visited President Ronald Reagan at the White House to celebrate. “Well, not only did the Mets show America that the ‘Other Team from New York’ could play this game, they did it their way – the Mets made ’em say,’Ya Gotta Believe,'” Reagan told the audience at the reception. The team presented Reagan with an orange-and-blue Mets warm-up jacket with his name on the back. Vice President George H.W. Bush, a native of Connecticut, received a Mets cap that can be seen in the photo with Gary and Sandy Carter.
