Banner Day for Mr. Met: 1965 Yearbook
When the team rolled out Mr. Met in the early 1960s, Mets fans instantly gravitated to the cheery cartoon character. Mr. Met appeared in all sorts of baseball roles — as a batter, a pitcher, even someone caught in a rain delay. The 1965 Mets yearbook noted the mascot’s popularity on fan posters at Shea Stadium in the previous season, a popularity Mr. Met has held in decades since.
