Date: September 25, 2022
Pete Alonso had four hits and drove in five runs to became the first Mets player to have 125 RBIs in a season, breaking the record set by Mike Piazza in 1999 and tied by David Wright in 2008. The Mets demolished the Athletics in Oakland, 13-4. “It’s a huge honor,” Alonso said. “I wouldn’t be able to be in this position without my teammates. All year, they’ve been putting together unbelievable at-bats. I feel blessed and honored to have the record, but without them, I wouldn’t be able to get it done.” Alonso ended up leading the National League with 131 RBIs, the second Met to lead the league and first since Howard Johnson in 1991.
