A Hall-of-Fame Backstop

When veteran catcher Mike Piazza arrived in New York in 1998, he gave the team an offensive jolt and a source of leadership for the next eight seasons. Piazza clubbed a team-best 40 home runs in 1999 as the Mets made their first postseason bid in 11 years. The following season, he led the team in home runs and batting average en route to a World Series appearance. On September 21, 2001, Piazza hit one of the most memorable home runs in MLB history to help the Mets win in their first home game following 9/11. With 12 career All-Star Games and 10 career Silver Sluggers, the Hall of Famer is recognized as one of the greatest backstops in baseball history.
