Wilson Plays for the Team
Fan favorite Mookie Wilson went down in MLB history for his legendary game-winning single in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series. Even with his notable play, he credited the teamwork of the entire Mets squad for winning the championship. “I think if you look back at that team, it’s still one of the most amazing things to me,” Wilson later said. “We were talented, but I think everyone have to admit that there were other teams collectively [that] may have been more talented than we were. They had more talent position by position. But I don’t think that they came together as a team the way we did. We were so focused.” Wilson spent a decade in New York during the 1980s and remains No. 2 on the franchise’s all-time list for triples (62) and stolen bases (281).
