Toying With Mr. Met: 1965 Bobblehead
Date: 1965
While other MLB teams issued player figurines to celebrate their teams in the 1960s, the Mets selected their mascot, Mr. Met, for one of their earliest nodders in 1965. Although the team let Mr. Met’s presence fade in the 1970s through 1990s, fans quickly reembraced him after his long absence. Mr. Met celebrated his 40th birthday with a party at Shea Stadium on April 14, 2002, joined by party-going mascots from other major league teams. The beloved mascot has appeared as a bobblehead several times since 1965.
