Tom Seaver Mets Hall of Fame Bust
Known simply as “The Franchise,” Tom Seaver is perhaps the greatest player ever to don a Mets uniform. Signed in 1966, Seaver made his debut with the Mets in 1967 and was named Rookie of the Year. In 1969, he won his first Cy Young Award while leading the Miracle Mets to a world championship. Seaver returned to the World Series in 1973 and won his second Cy Young that year, followed by a third top pitching award in 1975. After a trade to the Cincinnati Reds in 1977, Seaver returned to the Mets in 1983 for one final season in New York. He was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992 with 98.84 percent of the vote, the highest percentage ever at the time. His 198 wins and 2,541 strikeouts as a Met remain franchise bests.
