The Sweet Swing
John Olerud only spent three seasons with the Mets but in that time he put up some of the best numbers in club history including a team record .354 batting average in 1998. His .926 OPS is the best in Mets history for any player with at least 2,000 plate appearances. In an interview with MetsMerized Online Olerud admitted, “My first reaction was I didn’t want to go to New York. [Laughs.] I was super intimidated by New York City. … But it was the best thing that could have happened to me. I had such a great experience living in the city with the best teammates that I had, and I really got along with the coaches. It was a great place for me, and I’m very thankful I got traded to the Mets.” This uniform with no name on the back dates to the 1999 season.
