Tampa Roots

Dwight Gooden won the National League’s Rookie of the Year Award in 1984, less than three years after he was dominating at Hillsborough High School in Tampa. His hometown honored him in November 1984 when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers presented Gooden with his own No. 16 “Creamsicle” jersey.
