Santana’s Shutout Sends Out Shea

Needing a win to stay in the NL playoff race, Mets ace Johan Santana threw a three-hit shutout as the Mets defeated the Florida Marlins, 2-0. It became the final home win at Shea Stadium and closed out a remarkable first season for Santana with the Mets as he posted a 16-7 record with an NL best 2.53 ERA. Santana finished third in the NL Cy Young balloting. “I just went out there and tried to finish it. I didn’t do anything crazy,” said Santana.
