Saluting Captain Franco
Date: 1990 to 2001, 2003 to 2004
Brooklyn born and raised, John Franco came home to the Mets in 1990 after six successful seasons with the Cincinnati Reds. Franco spent 10 years as New York’s closer and four more as a set-up man. He also became the heart of the team, earning himself the designation of team captain. Franco retired after the 2005 season with 424 career saves, 276 of them with the Mets.
