Retiring Mike Piazza’s Number

Fans gave Mike Piazza a standing ovation during his jersey retirement ceremony at Citi Field. Piazza’s no. 31 was the fifth number in franchise history to be retired, along with those of Casey Stengel (no. 37), Gil Hodges (no. 14), Tom Seaver (no. 41) and Jackie Robinson (no. 42), whose number was retired throughout MLB in 1997.
