Ojeda’s Revenge Game

After six seasons playing for the Boston Red Sox, left-handed pitcher Bob Ojeda was traded to the Mets in 1986. He finished fourth in NL Cy Young Award voting that season with a 2.57 ERA and a team-best 18-5 record. In the NLCS against the Houston Astros, Ojeda pitched a complete-game victory in Game 2 and started Game 6. He then faced the Red Sox in Game 3 of the World Series, becoming the first pitcher to start a World Series game against the team he played for the previous year. The Mets came through with a 7-1 victory as Ojeda recorded six strikeouts and picked up the win. He also started Game 6 of the championship series. The southpaw remained in New York until 1990, compiling a 51-40 record and 3.12 ERA.
