Keith Hernandez Mets Hall of Fame Plaque
Date: 1997
The Mets selected their first official team captain in 1987, when Keith Hernandez’s talent on the field and leadership in the clubhouse made him a natural for the title. Traded to the Mets in 1983, Hernandez was one of several star players on the dominant Mets teams of the decade, which included a world championship in 1986. Hernandez retired after the 1990 season, but returned to the Mets as a broadcaster in 1999. He has been a part of the SNY broadcast teams, alongside Gary Cohen and Ron Darling, since its inception in 2006.
