Fans adopted the “Go-Go Mets” slogan in the franchise’s earliest seasons, and the phrase was used in full force during the 1969 World Series. Buttons were commonly worn by rooters at Shea Stadium, including by team owner Joan Whitney Payson and actress Pearl Bailey.
