Mets Playoff Ace Jerry Koosman

The Mets had the ultimate playoff ace in Jerry Koosman, who recorded four postseason wins between 1969 and 1973. In fact, the Mets won all six games in which Koosman started in those years. He was brilliant in Game 2 of the 1969 World Series, holding the Baltimore Orioles hitless until the 7th inning. “A lot of things went through my mind when [Paul] Blair got the hit,” Koosman said of his broken bid, feeling both disappointed and relieved. “There was still the victory and a World Series victory means you get a ring, you get extra money, but most of all, it means you’re world champions.”
