Jerry Koosman Sets Early Ks Record
Jerry Koosman was the definition of clutch in a down-to-the-wire victory over the San Diego Padres on May 28, 1969. He kept the Friars off the board for 10 frames while recording 15 strikeouts, which set a franchise record (later broken). The Mets went on to win at home in 11 innings, 1-0. The New York Daily News called the performance “the finest of the season by the Met staff.” Koosman is one of three pitchers with 1,500-plus strikeouts as a Met.
