Jerry Koosman Sets Early Ks Record
Date: Undated
Jerry Koosman was the definition of clutch in a down-to-the-wire victory over the San Diego Padres on May 28, 1969. He kept the Friars off the board for 10 frames while recording 15 strikeouts, which set a franchise record (later broken). The Mets went on to win at home in 11 innings, 1-0. The New York Daily News called the performance “the finest of the season by the Met staff.” Koosman is one of only four hurlers, along with Tom Seaver, Dwight Gooden and Jacob deGrom, to record at least 1,500 career strikeouts as a Met.
