Jon Matlack Mets Hall of Fame Plaque
Date: 2021
One of the first players drafted and developed by the Mets farm system to achieve major league success, Jon Matlack earned the 1972 NL Rookie of the Year Award with a 15-win season powered by a miniscule 2.32 ERA. His Game 2 shutout win over the Cincinnati Reds’ “Big Red Machine” evened the 1973 NLCS, which the Mets won in five games. Matlack pitched three excellent games in the 1973 World Series, including a win in Game 4. Over the next four seasons, the young Pennsylvanian earned three All-Star selections and won at least 13 games each season, including NL-leading shutout totals in 1974 and 1976.
