Honoring the Fallen on the Field
Date: September 2001
Following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Al Leiter and the Mets were committed to raising the spirits New Yorkers — and all Americans — by playing great baseball. Leiter certainly answered the call with three spectacular starts in September 2001 that saw him strike out 17 batters in 23 innings while giving up just 3 runs. Shown here is Leiter’s autographed jersey, complete with an American flag patch, from that month.
