Keith Hernandez’s Signature Stretch

A consistent Gold Glover throughout his career, Keith Hernandez perfected the first baseman stretch when fielding throws. This signature play was so well-known that it was used a means of introducing Hernandez in a 1992 episode of Seinfeld, wherein the title character recognized the legendary Met as he stretched out in a locker room. Hernandez’s defensive skills were a critical asset to the Mets during the 1980s, as he earned a franchise-record six Gold Gloves at first base.
