In addition to his dependable defense, Hernandez also showed up in the batter’s box. In the decisive Game 7, Hernandez’s hitting helped kickstart a critical Mets rally. Down 3-0 in the 6th, Hernandez delivered a two-run single to get his team on the board. Ray Knight and Darryl Strawberry slugged home runs and Hernandez added another RBI as the Mets defeated the Boston Red Sox at home, 8-5. The victory secured the second World Series championship in Mets history.
