Gee Whiz: Shamsky, Gentry & Agee Figures
Date: 1970
Kids and kids-at-heart salivated over this Amazin’ collectors toy set featuring the Game 3 heroes of the 1969 World Series. Platooning right fielder Art Shamsky got his only start of the Fall Classic, coming off an NLCS where he batted .538. Rookie hurler Gary Gentry earned the win, keeping the Baltimore Orioles off the board in 6 2/3 innings of work. Tommie Agee not only hit a longball, but he also prevented opposing runs with two outstanding outfield catches. The Mets capitalized on the trio’s efforts and won at home, 5-0.
