Edgardo Alfonzo Mets Hall of Fame Plaque
Date: Elected 2020 – Inducted 2021
Following in a long line of outstanding Venezuelan infielders, Edgardo Alfonzo was an important part of the Mets success in the late 1990s and early 2000s. “Fonzie” earned NL MVP votes in three of his eight Mets seasons, including a Silver Slugger season in 1999 and an All-Star selection in 2000. A clutch playoff performer, Alfonzo clubbed three home runs against Arizona in the 1999 NLDS and collected eight hits against St. Louis in the 2000 NLCS to help the Mets win their fourth NL pennant. Alfonzo remains the franchise’s leader in playoff hits, runs scored and RBIs.
