Child’s Play: Gooden ASG Baseball
Date: July 10, 1984
At just 19 years of age, Dwight Gooden became the youngest pitcher to ever toe the rubber at an All-Star Game when he tossed two innings of one-hit baseball, striking out three in the 1984 Midsummer Classic. Doc autographed this ball while noting his age and the number of All-Stars he struck out. Gooden credited Montreal Expos catcher and future Mets teammate Gary Carter with calming him down as he made his All-Star debut.
