Baseball Returns to Brooklyn: Keyspan Park

Keyspan Park was the name of the Mets-affiliate Brooklyn Cyclones’ home field from its opening in 2001 until 2010, when it was renamed MCU Park. (Today it’s known as Maimonides Park.) The park restored professional baseball to Brooklyn, which hadn’t had a dedicated home team since the major-league Dodgers relocated to California in 1958. A replica shows the field, which sits atop the grounds of the old Steeplechase amusement park, along the old Coney Island Boardwalk. Fans can view the famous Parachute Drop just past right field, against the larger backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean. Locals took to the Cyclones with such fervor in their first season that an additional 1,000 seats had to be added within three weeks of the ballpark’s opening.
