An Unforgettable World Series

With 108 wins, many expected the Mets to make their third World Series trip in 1986. Their opponents were the Boston Red Sox who won 95 games and spent every day in the AL East penthouse after mid-May. The Mets got off to a rough start in the World Series, dropping the first two games at Shea Stadium. Strong starts by Bob Ojeda and Ron Darling helped the Mets get even with wins in Games 3 and 4 at Fenway Park in Boston. The Mets dropped a close Game 5 in Boston setting up the iconic Game 6 and unforgettable Game 7 at Shea Stadium. World Series MVP Ray Knight had nine hits while Gary Carter had two home runs and drove in nine runs.
