A Noteworthy Moment: Ralph Kiner Story
Date: 1960s
Legendary Mets broadcaster Ralph Kiner worked the booth for 53 years, beginning with the expansion team’s first season in 1962. In a hand-written note, Kiner recalled a humorous story about manager Casey Stengel’s interaction with an infielder wearing shinguards during Mets tryouts. Stengel was known for his gruff nature with his players.
