Famed sculptor William Behrends created the 3,200-pound bronze and steel likeness of Tom Seaver. Behrends, who also sculpts faces for the Indianapolis 500 trophy and created statues of baseball legends like Willie Mays, said he intensely scrutinized Seaver’s signature “drop and drive” delivery. “He had such a unique pitching motion and was such a unique athlete that it took a lot of studying to get it correct.”
